Here’s the story of a thrift shop gown and a shoot pulled together in minutes.
Katie is my lovely associate photographer and assistant. She is the one who keeps my overactive imagination in check, so I can focus and create beautiful and unique imagery. During our most recent destination wedding to North Carolina, we decided to embark on an adventure. Half way to our destination, in the middle of our car karaoke shenanigans, we decided to detour to a waterfall about an hour from our hotel. We decided this and almost immediately passed a Goodwill. So of course it was fate, we had to find a dress. We pulled the concept of this shoot together in a matter of minutes, chose a $6.00 thrift store gown that was 3 sizes too big for Katie, and rushed to the waterfall (that added 3 hours to our travel time). We arrived with only 30 minutes of light left. In that time I managed to get makeup on her, get the dress to stay on, and shoot this series of serene of haunting images. This series was meant to be dark, mysterious, and emotional. Based on a collection of songs we discovered during our travel through the mountains.
